Case Study: Restoring the RamadaThe Ramada Hotel Heathrow is a building of major importance. To the Ramada corporation it is one of the key establishments in its extensive international chain of hotels. To many tourists and business executives arriving at the world’ largest and busiest airport it forms a vital first impression of England. And to local residents and the local Council it is a landmark whose distinctive exterior must be maintained.Unfortunately the famous fairytale castle façade of the hotel had lost some of its lustre. In particular, its lead lights were broken beyond repair and new lead lights were required. These replacements had to be of exactly the same size, colour and design because the Council and the Ramada wanted the façade to retain its exact features. At Agate Glass, we used our unique craftsmanship skills to make each lead light in the traditional way with every piece of glass individually cut to meet the exact specifications of the client. Because the Ramada was so impressed with our work on the exterior of the hotel, they contracted us to refurbish the glasswork inside the building. We created two new mirrors for each guest room. Because of the different shapes and sizes of the rooms no two mirrors were the same. We also produced glass surfaces for the bar, foyer and luxury bathrooms in the reception area, including special toughened, black glass up to 19 millimetres thick. As a result of our work a major hotel was given a vital facelift. By restoring the Ramada’s renowned façade to its former glory and refurbishing its interior glasswork, Agate helped reinforce the brand image of Ramada and provide hotel guests with the first experience of England that they wished for. |
